Youth with a mission Kristansand

Skjærgårdsheimen is a vibrant centre for missions situated on the beautiful coastline of southern Norway. On these pages you can read more about what’s going on here at the centre and the projects we are involved with both here and around the world. You are very welcome to join our schools and other activities!

Skjærgårdsheimen centre is located on the idyllic island of Flekkeroy about 13 km outside Kristiansand in the south of Norway. The place has had various owners since it was built in 1903, but was bought by Youth With a Mission Kristansand in the summer of 1994. Since then the whole centre has been renovated and has expanded its facilities as well as its ministries.

YWAM’s work in the southern part of Norway was started by Geir and Elin Fagerbakke in 1989. They were leading the centre until the spring of 2000, when the leadership position was handed over to Ståle and Marianne Braseth. Today the centre has more than 25 workers on base and 30+ long term missionaries out on the field.

Since 1994 more than 1000 people have been students at the various schools that have been run at this centre. Every September we start our six month DTS (Discipleship Training School) and every spring other University of the Nations (UofN)courses are being held. The PCYM (Principles of Child and Youth Ministries), the SOIWSW (School of Intercession, Worship and Spiritual Warfare), the IECS (Introduction to Ethno-Linguistics and Cultural Studies) and the IBC (Introduction to Biblical Counselling) have been offered as some of our training programs as well as LTS (Leadership Training Seminar) and BSN (Bible School for the Nations).

The centre is filled with activities and life all year around and seminars and weekends for couples, family camps, In Touch camps, Mission Adventures and teams ministering among youth as well as immigrants is also an important part of the big picture at the base.

Loren Cunningham was 20 years old when, during a time of prayer, he received a vision from the Lord. In this “mental movie” he saw a map of the world with waves crashing on to the shores. But, as he watched, the waves became young people and covered all the continents of the world. These young people were everywhere; out on the streets, proclaiming the good news of Jesus, bringing light in to the darkness, reaching out to the hopeless and giving them a living hope, everywhere, caring for people. The waves are still flooding the nations…
